The begining May 26
As we finished our early morning workout Jan told me that she was having a toothache. This was just what we needed as we head out on 3 week trip. She remembered that her dentist came in about 7. So off she went to be at his office when he opened. Luckily, she was able to get in. The results were not so good. However, thanks to modern medicine we were off by 9 am. The trip was very uneventful. We took I-40 to Jackson and from there highway 412 to Walnut Ridge, AR. As we left Jackson we went through land that was unbelievably FLAT. I had never been this way before and extremely surprised. The road was nearly vacant even though it was 4 lane. As we crossed the Mississippi into Missouri the flatness continued. With traffic still light it gave me more time to scan the area including the sky. The sky was the most interesting because of all the crop dusters flying. Great fun watching them work. One, even, was headed directly down the highway toward us. I really believe he was going to land on the highway.

At the last moment he landed on a road parallel with our highway about 50" off our road.

Our second day again was rather easy with more of the flat lands until we reached I-40 headed west at Conway, AR. This night, we had to pay attention to heavy weather moving through our area. The town we stayed in was Sallisaw, OK and the campground director told us they had had about 6 weeks of rain. At our site the electrical stand, water faucet and sewer connection were engulfed with water. Standing in puddles we got connected As the night began we were hit with tornado warnings. Since we were able to get local TV, we were able to see our dangers in real time. Fortunately, we had no problems but a whole lot more rain. As we went out for our morning walk we had to dodge mudpuddles all over the campground.
It was a joke, as we walked about, that each time we had to cross creeks like we had at Window Cliffs state natural area a couple of weeks ago. When we started to break down, I had to put garbage bags(not so cute) on my feet to take down our hookup.
One camper next to us said he "like my foot coverings".

We drove across OK to Sayre. I was very surprised as to how light the traffic was as we went through Oklahoma City, for it to be Memorial Weekend. I must say that Oklahoma highways between Arkansas line and Oklahoma City looked like they had been the target of multiple bombing runs. HOLES everywhere.
