Now we are driving east
After our morning exercise(5900') we began our trip toward Longmont, CO, where Jan's sister lives. Montrose sits in a large valley so we knew that there was going to be a change in altitude. Since we did this part of our trip in 2015, we had forgotten how pretty the trip would be.
Our drive would be along side the Colorado river for most of the trip. It was in this part of the drive that we drove through canyons so tight that the interstate was on piers over the RAPIDLY moving river.
Jan wants me to tell that there were STEEP mountains on each side. Luckily the traffic was moderate and it allowed a lot of rubber necking. It wasn't long before we began our climb into the mountains. Driving an RV on steep roads can be a challenge. It wasn't long before we noticed that we were passing tractor-trailers, I was impressed because last time I had to get behind a tractor and just stay there till the top. Again traffic was moderate except for the tractors. There are no pictures of this area to speak of since my copilot would not allow me to get the camera out, something about paying attention to my driving.
We drove through some beautiful ski areas like Vail, Copper Mountain, and Beaver Creek. There were more but the lack of oxygen is affecting my memory(like it could stand it). Our destination was Breckenridge. Arriving there the traffic picked up substantially and it took us over a half hour to drive 5 miles to our campsite(they called it a resort). This place is like none other we have ever stayed in before. We had to have gate code, which we've never had before. As we drove back to our site, we passed one after another RV's that were over a million dollars.
The only place I've seen RV's like this is in parking lots where music stars were performing, and really not this many. Since this was a place we had to have in desperation, we have had to pay over twice what we had ever had to pay before. There are small homes intermingled with the RVs here. Jan got online and found a 750 sq. ft. home listed at $550,000. I think I'll stick to Cookeville.
We went out for a walk around not for exercise but curiosity. What we found was being at this altitude, 9600', we were totally exhausted. Even working around our RV became a struggle. This mornings temperature is 38 degrees a far cry from all of our past mornings.
As I write this, I am lightheaded. Any writing mistakes are totally due to lack of oxygen.
