Arrowhead drive around

At Gooseberry falls we found that there are lots of folks that know about this area.

To start with, the parking lot was overflowing but just as we got there one car was pulling out.  I took advantage of this.  It was a short walk to the falls but just as crowded as the parking lot.  Oh yes, this was our first introduction to black flies.  They weren't nearly as overwhelming as they were at Split Rock.  I would have loved to have seen these falls with a full amount of water going over them.

Since on our earlier trip to Tettegouche SP, we missed the "Palisade".

We were passing by again so we made a short side trip to it.  This is really some kind of view off a really tall bluff over Lake Superior.  My guess is that it is 120" or so straight down to the lake.

Our destination for the day was Ely, MN.  We took a "scenic" drive to it.  It was a good idea but, a long day with little to see.  Sure there were a few lakes

to pull off to but not as pretty as our TN lakes.  This little town has more "outfitters" than I've ever seen.  The one thing that interested us was the International Wolf Preserve.  There we were able to see a couple of wolves.

These were Artic Wolves (a subset of the Grey Wolf).

On our morning walk we came across the finish for the Duluth Grandma's Marathon.

This is how Jan always finishes a race, head down and stopping her watch.

We found a drive here in Duluth that took us along the rim of the hill that overlooks it.  On the drive there is a tower

to overlook the city.  It would have been a great place to see the city had there not been a layer of fog.  Also, there was a section on the road where the road crossed a pretty little creek about 7 times.  Behind the first bridge there was a small set of falls

that looked nice.

We had lunch today at a highly recommended restaurant, Duluth Grill.  It is a breakfast and lunch place.  Normally we won't wait in line for any meal.  Today we waited nearly 30 minutes for lunch.  This place, even being in an industrial area, is jam packed with folks like us (from everywhere). Here is what we had for lunch.

You probably wonder how we ate this much.  We didn't.  Each of us ate only half of our meal.  We will be enjoying the rest for supper.
