Days 1 and 2
Starting a day early was both a blessing and a curse. Let’s start with the curse. When we arrived in Cadiz I checked the tank
lights to see how they were. To my
surprise the “black water” take showed full.
So while setting up, I hooked up the sewer hose and opened the
valve. While this was happening I continued
to setup the water hoses and electricity.
When set up I checked the sewer hose and saw nothing was going through
it. This was a bad sign based on the tank
lights. Oh, I forgot to say that we had
been to lHuntsville earlier in the week and did not empty the tanks(dump). I added a little water to the tanks in hopes
of getting them flowing. NOTHING Time to check and find out if the could be a
blockage, but how, without being over powered with waste. Nothing I did worked. So decided to sleep on it and see what I
could get worked out further on the trip.
Needless to say, I didn’t sleep well.
However, I did come up with a plan to do one more check. This was to get Jan to pull the lever and me
to climb under the RV to see if the valve was working. It was working!!! This was great news. While the valve was open we didn’t see anything
coming from it, NOT GOOD. The valve was
left open longer than normal while I calculated the next move. In just a moment, Jan said that liquid was
flowing. YEA!!!! When this happened, I added more water to
help flush the tank. This worked and now
everything appears to be normal.
The blessing was that we didn’t have to have more skilled
help. If we had done that, more than
likely the delay would have thrown our “scheduled” trip into a tizzy. Back on schedule and cruising down/up the
road to St. Joseph, MO.
The drive was mostly cloudy and much cooler than yesterday. The two things that make traveling easier.
BTW, the reason we left a day early, was to get to a
location before having to drive in the rain and let the rain go by during the
night. It worked plus it also shorten Thursday’s
trip to St. Joesph.
Our campground in St. Joseph is just up river from where Lewis
and Clark began their expedition to the Pacific. Later in the trip we will be on their trail. Since they traveled the Missouri River as far
as they could, we will cross the trip numerous times on our journey.
